Khoday India Ltd.

Under the broad umbrella of The Khoday Group, Khoday India has carved a loyal niche for itself in the IMFL and beer categories of manufacturing potable alcohol. The House of Khoday promotes liquor as just one enterprise in its abundant bouquet which includes distilling, brewing, malt sting, bottle manufacturing, transportation, engineering, construction, hotelier, tours and travels, exports, agricultural products, chemicals, paper manufacture, stationery, diamonds and jewelry crafting, computer software, tissue culture, financial services, and pharmaceuticals. The group was founded by Khoday Eshwarsa as a silk manufacturer as early as 1906. Inherited by his sons Venkusa and Lakshmansa, the groups business ventures expanded to include distillery and stationery divisions.

Incorporated as Khoday Distilleries Ltd. In 1965, it was deemed a public limited company in 1980. With a well developed manufacturing unit in Bangalore, the company launched Red Knight Whiskey, bottled in an hourglass shaped glass jar in 1967 and its flagship brand Peter Scot Whiskey in 1968. The two brands are exported to Europe since 2007 and North America since 2008. Initially available only in Northern India, the brands are now available in the South Indian markets thanks in large amounts to a 2008 alliance with Cobra Breweries. The other brands Khoday produces are Hercules Beer, Hercules Rum and Constantino Brandy. The company was renamed Khoday India Ltd. In 1992. Since the business activities of the group are diverse and growing, its alcohol business remains with a smaller portfolio of high quality brands. In fact it's cross-business innovation has resulted recently in a first of its kind product called Lady Bird Bio Beer. Fortified by Aloevera extracts, this beer is a healthier guzzle that increases the physiological presence of certain key vitamins and does not harm the liver or cause gastric ulcers, as proven by clinical trial. Early batches were made available for tasting in UK and received very positive response. Burton's Export Lager is another popular beer brewed at Khoday Brewery in Bangalore.

Khoday brands like Hercules and Peter Scot have gained popularity over the last two decades not due to traditional advertising and promotion but due to Khoday's aggressive trading, distribution and word-of-mouth. And that only adds to the crowning quality evident in all businesses under the aegis of The House of Khoday.
